Abstract

In an interview, Carl Icahn, Chairman, Icahn Associates, talked about the recent market carnage. He said that this is probably the worst market as far as the debt market is concerned. They've done a lot of investing in the debt market in past recessions, notably in 1990 and 2000, but he has never seen the senior bonds as cheap as they are today. One of the great opportunities he has seen in a great many decades is senior debt. He is not saying that it won't get battered even more. Shareholder activism hasn't really changed since the 1980s when he first came to prominence. Sarbanes-Oxley hasn't done anything to change it.
