I wake up, get some coffee at Fuel, and cruise down here to see if anything catches my eye. If not, I might people-watch a little bit. Very seldom do I go out with a list of things to buy. I’m from Hamden, which is a little bit more rural, so it’s nice to come to a place where there are people around on the weekend. Food’s really important to me. I knew that I wanted to start cooking when I was quite young. I started watching the Food Network. I watched Emeril Lagasse, and that was it—Emeril all day.         “Growing up in the summers, my grandfather had tomato plants, and I would just eat them off the vine. I’ve been a lifelong tomato fan; I’ll just eat them like an apple. I don’t know if people who didn’t grow up with plants in their yard have as much of an affinity for tomatoes, but I think having them as a kid has definitely made me more likely to pick them up.         "I’m an international student – I’m originally from South Korea. That’s where I was born and raised and lived for 20 years, so I’m used to Asian spices. But interestingly, my taste buds have changed since coming to Yale, maybe for survival reasons. Nowadays, I generally go for Italian or American food. Recently, I’ve decided to go vegetarian, My food experience has been very different. I’ve been enjoying it a lot. It just makes my body feel so much better, and I feel like my taste buds have cleared. I’m able to taste subtler flavors and actually love vegetables.
