The Bionx PL500 offers a 500W motor and a 36V Li-ion battery. The concept behind the PL500 is simple: more speed. Capable of speeds of over 25 mph, the PL500 is meant to be used on stretches of flat ground to get from A to B as quickly as possible. And, of course, there's always the adrenaline rush.

This kit is a trade-off. In exchange for a higher top speed, you will encounter a few drawbacks that we'd like to bring to your attention (here at NYCeWheels we prefer you to be a happy customer with the product that best suits you):

The PL500 offers significantly less torque than the PL350, and as such it's not ideal for heavier riders, riding on steep hills, or for riding longer distances, especially since the battery range will be a lot shorter than what it would be with the other kits if you're planning on making use of the increased speed.

It should also be noted that the battery might need to be replaced sooner than it normally would with this set-up, as the battery will be drained more quickly by the 500W motor. When batteries are repeatedly completely drained before they are recharged (as opposed to charged whenever the battery needs it, which is ideal), over a long period of time this will detract from the battery cells' overall life expectancy.

And, last but not least, before purchasing a Bionx PL500 be sure to check with your DMV in regards to local regulations. The PL500 exceeds the 20mph federal speed limit. In some states and counties it may be illegal to use on roads, and in some of the states in which it is street legal it needs to be registered. It is the responsibility of the buyer to determine what laws and regulations apply to them prior to purchase.

Installing this kit will add a total of approximately 17 lbs. to your bike.

The 500 watt Bionx motor weighs just under 9 lbs.
This motor offers 500W of nominal power (during regular use) and 1200W of peak power (for short durations, when you need it to.)
Nominal torque: 8.2 Newton-meters
Maximum torque: 28 Newton-meters

The 36 Volt Li-Ion (Lithium ion) Bionx battery has a capacity of 9.6 Amp-hours and weighs just under 7 lbs. This battery comes in a hard case and is used with the 350W and 500W motor. When properly maintained, Li-Ion batteries last roughly 800 charge cycles before the cells need to be replaced. However, when in conjunction with the 500W motor the user can expect a shorter lifetime.
