Moonlight Head, nr Melbourne, Australia

Kiwi hotelier Mark Banning-Taylor commissioned his architectural hero, Pritzker Prize-winning architect Glenn Murcutt, to design a row of five houses on a hillside overlooking kangaroo-filled bushland and the ocean beyond. Interiors team white walls with blue stone floors, designer furniture and antique rugs - all softened at night by candlelight and an open fire. There's a fully stocked kitchen and personal chef at your disposal; and your concierge can arrange anything from delivery of a motorbike to treetop rainforest walks and wildlife-photography tutorials. Who goes Wilderness-loving celebrities, architecture buffs.

Top tip: Break in your walking boots before you go.

Must-do: Ride with local horse whisperer Neil Henry.

Downside: It's remote - so maybe that's not a downside...
