Apparently, back in 1910 the homes in our neighborhood were built and purchased by Levi's sewing workers from Italy. Once they were settled, they would dig out their lower floors and invite other family members over to live here. This is what made the apartment we have now.
The apartment has separate entrances that open to a kitchen, bathroom, living room, bedroom and second room that could serve as a den, office or bedroom. O'Keefe and Merrit stove, clawfoot tub, gas log heat, garden views. New carpet and paint. Large capacity washer/dryer onsite, sandbox and swingset outside your kitchen door. The ceilings are a little lower than usual - about 7 1/2 ft - so doorjambs are not ideal for someone over 6 feet!
The neighborhood can be described as lower Rockridge, but is equally close to Temescal. We walk in 15 minutes to Nomad Cafe, Whole Foods, Berkeley Bowl, Rockridge or Ashby Bart, Rockridge and Temescal shops and restaurants. Twenty minute walk to Elmwood. Five to 10 minute drive/bike ride to UC Berkeley and CCA. Two minutes from freeway onramp to SF, 980, and 580. The bus to downtown Oakland or Cal runs a block away. Across the street is Bushrod Park - Oakland's largest (14 acre) urban park - so there is unlimited street parking as well as baseball diamond, huge field for sports, and tennis courts. Peralta elementary school district - and the school itself is just 5 blocks away. We have incredibly nice neighbors - this area is full of artists/creative professionals and families.
Upstairs lives us: an architect, photographer, and 3 kids 9, 6, and almost 3. Our last tenants moved out after 8 years once their second child was born to purchase a home of their own. We're especially interested in someone looking to be a long-term tenant.
We're open to the idea of cats or a kid-friendly dog with an additional deposit.
Utilites are $200/month and include trash, water, gas/electric, Uverse television + HBO. The only bill you have to deal with is your phone and your own internet. (But you're welcome to tap into our wireless.)
One year lease. First month's rent plus a $1600 security deposit to move in.
Available now. E-mail with questions or to schedule a viewing.
